Every Christmas as part of my kids Advent Calendar we spend a day making gifts for our neighbors. We prepare something simple to distribute to all our neighbors who live on our street. This year we prepared a simple gift of honey with some greenery. Our neighbors loved it and I’m going to show you step by step how you can make this budget friendly, simple gift for your neighbors and friends.

1. Gather Your Supplies

For this project I bought a total of three items.

  1. Quart of local honey
  2. Little honey jars with honey spoons
  3. Cellophane bags

I bought our honey from a local bee keeper. He has a small stand that he sells from solely on the honor system. You pick up your jar of honey and place the money in a jar. It’s great to buy local honey to your area if you can. A quart of honey cost me $25.

Next I ordered the honey jars and spoons. You can purchase the ones I used HERE.

The kit includes jars, lids, individually wrapped spoons, twine and an adorable little honeybee charm. There are 30 jars total in the kit and the cost was $20.

Lastly I picked up a pack of cellophane bags at our local Dollar Tree. These cost me $1.25. If you don’t have time to run to the store you can order these bags from the link I provided above.

2. Gather your greenery

Types that I used in this budget friendly project included:

  1. Holly with berries
  2. Rosemary

Greenery adds so much to a gift. My kids and I gathered our greenery for this project from our yard. We took clippings from our holly and rosemary bushes. Using greenery from our yard helped keep this simple gift for our neighbors budget friendly.

We made these gifts for our neighbors during the holiday season so we chose to use holly with berries. If you are giving this gift during another time of year you can use a different type of greenery. Be creative and use what is in season or in bloom around your home.

3. Fill the jars with honey

Once you have all of your supplies gathered you can fill your jars with honey. I was able to fill 20 jars using the quart of honey I had purchased. After the jars are full place the lid securely on. Take a piece of twine and thread the honeybee charm on it. To finish off the jar simply tie the twine around the top in a bow.

4. Place items in bags

Place all items in the cellophane bags. This includes:

  1. Honey jar
  2. Individually wrapped honey spoon
  3. Greenery

After all items have been placed in the bag you can tie it off with a ribbon of choice. I discovered the presentation of the bag looked much better when the ribbon was tied off closer to the top.

5. Finish it off with a gift tag

The last step of this simple, budget friendly project is to add a lovely gift tag. Since I made these as Christmas gifts we added a holiday tag. I have created two types of gift tags that you can download for free to use for this project. Click below to access.

These simple gifts are perfect for your neighbors or friend group. All together I spent a little over $2 per gift. They are a perfect budget friendly gift.

What holds the most value is the time and thoughtfulness put into making these sweet gifts for your neighbors and friends. Comment below and let me know if you made this gift for the people in your life that you care about.
