Is Homemade Ice Cream Easy to Make
I remember enjoying homemade ice cream on special occasions as a child. I remember thinking that this delicious treat had to be complicated to make because of how infrequently we got to enjoy it.
Now that I am an adult myself and a parent of my own little ones I have discovered that homemade ice cream isn’t nearly as complicated to make as I once thought. In our house we have homemade ice cream on a regular basis. And because we use raw milk we are enjoying great health benefits while still enjoying a delicious treat.
This recipe for creamy, chocolate raw milk ice cream is sure to become one of you and your family’s favorites. Made with fresh ingredients and a no heating process, this recipe is sure to be a keeper.
The No Cook/Heat Ice Cream Method
This raw milk ice cream is a no cook/heat ice cream recipe. This means that you don’t have to heat the ingredients before making this delicious treat. By not having to cook or heat your ingredients you are saving time and energy. You will enjoy making this recipe again and again because of how simple it is.
Another benefit of this recipe being no cook or heat is that the vitamins, minerals and pro-biotics that are found in raw milk aren’t destroyed or diminished in the heating process. This raw milk ice cream is both nutritious and delicious!
Raw Milk Ice Cream Tips
- This recipe tastes best and has the most health benefits when you use unpasteurized raw milk
- If possible choose organic ingredients
- Use a high quality salt brand such as Redmond’s
- You can sweeten your ice cream with sugar, honey or maple syrup
Why Use Raw Milk
Raw milk is milk that hasn’t been altered. It isn’t pasteurized or homogenized. Raw milk has naturally occurring vitamins, minerals and pro-biotics and is more easily digestible. Not only can you be confident about the healthy things that are in raw milk you can be equally confident about what is not in it. There are no antibiotics, GMOs or growth hormones. And if all of these reasons aren’t enough…raw milk is absolutely delicious!

Where Can I Find Raw Milk?
The rules for selling raw milk are different in every state. You can check out the website Get Raw Milk and enter your city or zip code to find the closest supplier to your location. If you do not see a supplier listed near you I would try reaching out to local cow farms in your area. Shopping local and supporting small scale farms is something great to do to contribute to your community.
Why Do I Add Salt?
Milk, cream, cocoa and sugar would be enough to make delicious chocolate ice cream but in my opinion adding just a little bit of real salt takes it to the next level. Who doesn’t love a good sweet and salty combination? Yum. The truth is I don’t only add the salt for the flavor combination but for the health benefits as well.
All salts are not created equally. When I say real salt I am referring to quality salt that hasn’t been processed. I personally use Redmond’s salt. It is unrefined and has no additives or pollutants. The health benefits of real salt is that it includes trace minerals that are necessary and beneficial for our bodies.

How to Make Chocolate Raw Milk Ice Cream
Pour all ingredients into a blender or a large bowl. Blend or whisk until smooth.
I personally always mix mine in a bowl. It does take a little more elbow grease but it’s still pretty quick. Just be sure to mix thoroughly so all of the cocoa gets mixed in.
You can store the ice cream mixture in the fridge for a couple of hours until ready to make or go ahead and pour it into your ice cream maker.
Follow the instructions of your personal ice cream maker. Mine requires ice and ice cream salt. (approximately 1/2 a cup) The mixing process usually takes about 30-45 minutes.

Once complete you can store the container of churned ice cream in the freezer. It will stay fresh for a month + in the freezer but let’s be real, we all know it’s not going to last that long!
Believe me, you won’t be disappointed with this chocolate raw milk ice cream! Leave a comment below and let me know if you prefer a bowl, a cone or eating it straight out of the container like me. 🙂

Our family loves homemade ice cream, but I havem’t tried making chocolate yet. We’ll have to try it!
This sound super delicious. I love making homemade ice cream. It’s amazing how horrible the ingredients are in the store bought version. Reading that actually made me quit buying ice cream a few years ago and I was an addict, lol. Now I make my own with wholesome ingredients and don’t even feel guilty about it. I’ve never tried chocolate ice cream and love your recipe. I will totally try this when I get my ice cream machine out of storage. Awesome recipe!
Thank you for the simple steps!!! This was much needed!
